Finding the Best Jobs in Marketing Starts Here

When you look for work, especially a marketing position, it can be easy if you know where to start. A huge mistake made by people looking for a marketing job is only looking in one place. Where are you looking for marketing jobs?

If you look just in the news paper, a local career board, or a general positions job search engine; you'll often be frustrated. It takes different skills to find the right marketing job that will lead to a stable career. That's why it's important to expand your search upfront.

Looking for work in the field of marketing is a full-time job. You'll find a meta-job search engine here, specifically focused on finding marketing jobs, but you'll also want to look at industry publications, trade groups, and common gathering places of marketing professionals. You'll find a great marketing site ranking directory here.

Find at least 5 sources for new marketing positions, outside the usual sites, look for specific marketing focused resources. You need 5 sources because employers don't advertise their positions in every job posting site available.

And, for best results, always include a marketing job meta-engine like Find A Marketing Job, because it's more likely to contain a position right for you no matter where employers post. Yes, this last piece of advice is self serving, but it's a fact.

Put Your Marketing Skills to Work

When looking for a marketing position, many candidates forget their profession in favor of traditional job search approaches. You'll find a new position faster doing what you do best. As a marketing professional, what is your greatest strength?

Of course, it's your marketing skills.

As you would with any other marketing project, put together your own marketing plan. Define your value and skills as an employee, identify who would be interested in you, and start researching your chosen market. Your results depend on showing that you know your stuff.

Once you have your marketing plan, execute your plan as you would any project at work. Not only hit the streets running with a full direct marketing campaign, but be seen in your market place to build recognition. How would you market a new client project?

Your exact approach will depend fully on your individual skills. However, put your best foot forward instead of the old pushing of resumes. For the most ideal position in marketing, you need to put your best foot forward by marketing yourself.
